AW2 Advocate Annual Training

Last week, AW2 Advocates from around the country came together for a week of intensive education and collaboration, at the AW2 Advocate Annual Training.  Here is more about the training from two AW2 Advocates, Ayandria Barry and Regina Webb:

The AW2 Advocate training last week was awesome and made me realize how far our program has come in just four years!

I was one of the first four AW2 staff members and being here from the beginning, I’ve seen how much this program has grown and continues to grow to work for the wounded Soldiers and their Families.  From our humble beginnings to now, our staff has grown from four to over 100 and we are still growing!

The AW2 Advocate Training is just one way that leadership provides us with the knowledge and tools we need to navigate through the red tape and get the job done for our Soldiers and their Families.  During my time at AW2 I have seen our resources evolve to include a complex database, a Strategic Communication division that sends out wonderful literature and newsletters to both the staff and the Soldiers, and a Human Resources cell that provides us with support, feedback and solutions. This is all a testament to AW2’s continued progress.

To the new evolving AW2 Trainings… Keep up the good work!!!! Hooha!

On behalf of the Northeast Team at Headquarters, I would like to say thanks to everyone  for their valuable contributions at our recent annual training, held in Alexandria, VA.   I very much appreciated all the information and knowledge shared during our breakout session with the Region Teams.  The information gained during these sessions will serve as additional tools to continue the support we provide to our AW2 Soldier's and Family members.  I trust that you enjoyed your time at the training and I certainly look forward to working with each of you as we continue to give our very best to our population.

I certainly agree!!!  Since my return back to Fort Knox, I have implemented some employment resources, that I learned from the training, for Soldiers with TBI and PTSD from NISH.

I also had an opportunity to meet other AW2 Advocates in the field whose knowledge and experience benefited me as well.

I want to sincerely express my deep gratitude for every person who contributed to developing our Annual Training.  It truly showed a superb level of professionalism, and a lot of care and concern for us all.

Good morning. I'm the mother of an injured soldier ( she has TBI and PTSD), who has been nagivating the systems (Army and VA), of care for my child since November of last year. I only recently learned of your organization and I'm sorry I missed your recent training session. I've had varying degrees of success in getting the care my child needs and have learned so much about how to get things done in these systems. I'd like to have some information on how to become an official advocate not just for my child but for others who may not have the stamina to get through these systems. I live in Kentucky and don't know if we have any activity for injured soldiers and their families.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

I wanted to write a sincere thank you to everyone who made last week’s AW2 Annual Advocate Training a success. It was truly an AW2 team effort - every single person in our organization contributed to the training in some way, through providing input on topics, planning, training, setting up logistics, lending a hand in administration and most of all, support and positive attitude! It was a great week of learning, sharing resources, and networking. We received lots of candid and constructive feedback and questions which will be sent back out to the field in the next few weeks with answers. I would also like to thank all of the instructors from other organizations and agencies who took time out of their busy schedules to come and share their knowledge with our Advocates. It was a wonderful week and we are already planning and looking forward to the next! Thanks to all – “I am AW2”!

Julia, Thank you for your offer to provide local support to wounded Soldiers and their Families. Someone from our program will be in touch with you via email. Again, thank you for all that you are doing for your daughter and other wounded Soldiers.
